Lt. Mellion Killed in Bomber Crash

(Jan. 18, 1945) -- 2nd. Lt. Roger J. Mellion, 21, was killed near Goose Bay, Labrador, when the B-24 on which he was a crewmember crashed.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mellion of 70 Overlook Avenue, Belleville, N.J.

Lt. Mellion was on the first lap of a flight to Europe to begin active duty as a pilot of a heavy bomber.

He was graduated from Belleville High School in 1941.

He enlisted in December 1942 as a sophomore from Ohio State University.

Lt. Mellion was commissioned as an Army pilot in May 1944 at Turner Field, Albany, Ga.

He took his B-24 transitional training in Westover Field, Mass., and Charleston, S. C.
