James T. White

James White KIA in Italy

(Sept. 7, 1944) -- James T. White, 24, of 75 Holmes Street, was killed in action in Italy on Aug. 16. He had been overseas since January 1943.

White participated in campaigns in Tunisia, Sicily, Cassino and the Anzio beachhead.

Born in Jersey City, he lived in Belleville for 14 years and graduated from Belleville High School in 1939.

White enlisted in July 1941, and served in the 67th Anti-Aircraft Gun Battalion.

He is buried at Plot F, Row 7, Grave 31, Florence American Cemetery, Florence, Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
